Jason Bourne

I watched The Bourne Ultimatum last night.

Phwoar. What a movie.

The action was intense, the pace frenetic, and there was an occasional pause to let you catch your breath before you were thrust straight back into the action.

Also, Jason Bourne is just awesome. I don’t think that anybody, anywhere, ever, could possibly beat him.

It was the best of the three movies.

If you haven’t read the books, I kind of recommend them. If you’re worried about being disappointed by the differences between the books and the movie, don’t be. The first movie slightly parallels the first book, but after that, the plots are completely different. They still have the same great Jason Bourne/David Webb character, but there is a lot of depth and back story in the books that has no place in the movies, and the plot follows a completely different path.

The thing is, Robert Ludlum is a terrible writer.

The dialogue, although it improves slightly through the three books, is the most atrocious dialogue I have ever read. It is painful. I often threw the books down in disgust at what I was having to read.

However, amazingly, the books have such a great plot, and he tells such a good story, that most of the time I couldn’t put the books down.

So, to my kind of recommendation…

If you want something enjoyable but not meaningful that you can read, enjoy, and not think too much about, I do recommend picking up the books and giving them a try. I guess you could say that they’re good airplane books.

If you want something well written that means something, stay away! You should probably be looking somewhere else.
