We’ve moved

Last weekend, Galen, Sherry and I moved house.

We loved our cottage, but I was struggling with the commute to Bristol 4 times per week.

The cottage in the evening

Sherry found a lovely 4 bedroom semi-detached house in Nailsea (20 minutes drive from Bristol), and five weeks after suggesting that we should consider moving, we’d found the house, signed the contract, picked up the keys and moved all our possessions.

The new place is great. It has plenty of extra space, a garden that Galen can more easily play in, and I save 4 hours every day commuting to and from work.

I hate BT

We’re moving house soon. Last week, Sherry called BT to get the phone line sorted at our new place. Everything was arranged, we had an order, a phone number, but they’d given us a stupid connection date.

For some reason, they were unable to connect the new line at the date we wanted (any day around the time we were actually moving). They were also going to disconnect our current line on the same date. The only time they could apparently do this was 13 days before we moved.

13 days here without a phone line, leading up to a big house move, wasn’t something we could live with, so we cancelled the order and today I went to place a new one under my name.

But in the last week, it looks like BT have disconnected the phone line to our new house. When I called BT this morning there was apparently no connection, which means an engineer has to go to the exchange to connect us.

They want to charge us £122.50 to reconnect a line they disconnected in the last 5 days.

Thanks a lot BT.

jmag

Last month Sherry received an email from the editor of triple j’s jmag (in Australia) asking if she’d be able to write an article for the magazine. She agreed, and to a very tight schedule put together a list of “Things You Didn’t Know About Flight of the Conchords”.

The magazine is now out and her article gets a full two pages. Go pick up a copy now.

You can also follow her on twitter.

Don’t forget to check out What the Folk! for Flight of the Conchord news too.

Hair

On Friday we took Galen to get his hair cut. It had grown a little bit too long.

Ok the hair is getting ridiculous. Cut it please?

Sitting on my lap, he was fine to start with.

Hair cut time!

But soon became unimpressed.

Not particularly enjoying hair cut time

It was all worth it though. We think the result is pretty adorable.

Hello 2009

And so ends another year.

2008 was one of the hardest, but also most rewarding, years of my life.

Some of my favourite moments:

  • Helping catch Galen as he was born in the sitting room or our home
  • Seeing mum and Nick again
  • Every moment with Galen
  • Scoring my first 100 in cricket
  • Writing and releasing another software application for a business and seeing a significant positive impact to that business
  • Our trip to Belfast to see a certain group perform

Some of my least favourite moments:

  • Spending a Saturday night saving our property from a flood
  • Losing a cricket match when the other team needed 32 runs from the last 8 balls
  • The “summer”
  • Some of those nappies

There were a lot more positives than negatives.

As expected, Galen has turned our lives upside down. In 2009 I hope that I can restore a little bit of balance to my life.
